Muehleisen is a German name (although I'm
American). Muehl means 'mill' and eisen means 'iron'. In the original German spelling, "Muehl" is written with an umlaut:
Other than my immediate family members (such as my brother
Ralph Muehleisen), I've never met anyone else with
this last name, but since I've had this web page, I've been receiving e-mail from many people with the name Muehleisen or variations of it. One of them, Eric Milliron, sent me some photographs of actual "Muehleisens" that he took in Germany. In the photo below, the "mill iron" is the central iron part of the mill stone.
For Americans, the name Muehleisen is quite unusual. Most of my American friends have trouble spelling and pronouncing it, but when I write it in Katakana (the Japanese phonetic script), my Japanese friends can pronounce it easily. This is what Muehleisen looks like in Japanese:![]()

I've started a Muehleisen Page for people doing geneological research on the Muehleisens. If you are a Muehleisen and want to read about other Muehleisens and/or to get in touch with others,or if you just want to know more about this name and where it comes from, please take a look at it.
