New England
I managed to get out to Connecticut of New York City where there are many
complex highways and countless ill-mannered cars. Connecticut was the first
state of "New England" to me. "New England" made up of Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Today I drove these five states except Vermont. So, at first I'd like to write about Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire because I couldn't get any information of Maine. When I got to the welcome center of Maine, it had already closed. In addition, I will get more information of Massachusetts because my destination tomorrow is Boston.
Connecticut
Some interesting words I found out in State Map & Guide are "Gateway" and "Mark Twain." I'm not sure whether Gateway means "Gateway of New York" or "Gateway of New England." In any case there is no doubt that travelars tend to drive through this state without stop. According to the guide, to attract them Connecticut offers 52 attractions. As to Mark Twain, this guide shows he lived in Connecticut for nearly 20 years when he wrote about "Tom Sawyer" and "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn." I knew he spend his childhood in Hamnibal, Missouri where Mississipi river runs. So, he moved to this state after that. This guide shows their proud of his choice.
Rhode Island
Rhode Island is the smallest state in the U.S. So, I could drive across it for about only 30
minitues. Rhode Island was still considered America's premier resort, attracting the country's richest families to build vacation homes. In my university days, I've read "Great Gatzby." Although I forget its content, this novel has its setting in this state.
New Hampshire
A novel, "Hotel New Hampshire" made me familiar with this state. Of course, I forget its content because I read it 10 years ago. Anyway, New Hampshire is totally different from L.A. because it has four seasons such as spring, summer, fall, and winter. In addition, they say we can enjoy golf in spring, hiking in summer, drive in fall, and skiing in winter. So, it is full of fun activities. |
