World Tropical Rainforest have been destroying at a staggering rate. In Malaysia , many Orang Asli ‘s living space are now threatened with logging of the forests. The bulk of the logged tropical timbers will be exported to the world biggest tropical timber importer, Japan. Those timbers will be components for construction and furniture.

Tropical rainforest is a rich repository of numerous species of plants, trees, insects, birds and animals and more. An Ecosystem of tropical rainforest will never be restored once it had damaged.

The tropical rainforest is the life itself for Orang Asli who have been living there for thousands of years.

There are 60.000 Orang Asli people living in Malaysia. About 60% still live in the rain forest.
■ Living in the Rain Forest

The name "Orang Asli" means "original people" or "first people" in Malay. Living in the forest and riverside, they get all what they need for living from the nature. Water from the river for drinking, washing clothes and bathing. They hunt animals in the forest for eating. Palm trees are important components for making their houses and boats.
Plants and herbs in the rein forest are proved to be scientifically effective for health in recent years.
According to the National Cancer Institute in US, 70% of the useful plants in cancer
treatment are found only in the rainforest.

Those plants save not only aboriginal people
living in the tropical rainforest but also
the
patients in the world who need treatment for
their leukemia, heart ailments and other disease.
There are Orang Asli who become a guide for tourists and organize rain forest tours by using their rich knowledge about their rein forest in order to make their living these days.

■How powerful the blowpipe toxic effect is?
The Orang Asli still hunt with blowpipes for living. The blowpipe is made from bamboo. A lethal preparation are made from the sap of eight different kinds of trees. Heated and condensed sap will be coated the tip of the darts. The tip to make the most of the effect of the toxic is to cut the tip of the darts to get it stuck in the body of animals and birds. It takes about one minute to kill birds and little animal such as squirrel by the toxic. Bigger animals such as deer and pigs need about 10 minutes to die.

■ Jungle is the playground for Children

One afternoon, I had visited one of Orang Asli's village after 1 hour cruise by speed boat through the rein forest. When the boat arrived, children's laughter are welcomed us. "Apa Kaba!" children
spoke to me with big smile. And I said "Kaba Bai!" "Apa Kaba" means "How are you?" and "Kaba Bai" means "I'm fine!" in Malay.

Children are always so cheerful, however, they are relatively shy when their first meet. They star at stranger with wonder eyes and see how these new people are. The more and more we visit their village, invisible wall will be disappeared and the children will start to welcome us with big smile.

Orang Asli Children easily climb up more than ten meters high trees and get some fruits from the trees. Finding material from the rein forest, the children make their own playthings. Little cowboys are exciting for making their air gun by bamboo.
Young ladies collect long and narrow leaves and tied them at their back as a casual wig for fashion.
