San
Francisco Zoo where Ben meets Carl
From San Francisco:Take
19th Avenue to Sloat, head west on Sloat to 45th Avenue
Santa
Barbara: It seems that the church in the last scene is on Allan St.
in Santa Barbara. However, I went to see the church in a city called La
Verne in Los Angeles. (There is no Vernon Ave. Exit and Allan St. in
SB. I am not sure this movie was shot in Santa Barbara.)
The church is United Methodist Church of La Verne
3205 "D" Street (909)593-2013
The 210 freeway that
goes thru Pasadena connects with a small section of the Route 30 freeway
and you're in La Verne. You would travel from the end of the 30 freeway
on Foothill Blvd. about 1 mile and turn right on D Street. The La Verne
City Hall is on the other side of the street, about a block north of the
church. See Map(Large)(Small)
The library Elaine comes out of is Doheny
Memorial Library in USC,
though it seems in UC Berkeley.
The bookstore in Berkeley Elaine comes out of is Moe's
Books, 2476 Telegraph Avenue Berkeley, California.
and there is also
a cafe across the street where Ben was sitting and waiting for Elaine
Los
Angeles International Airport
The bus in the last scene of "The Graduate"
is located at the Campus Bus Service
at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio.
The car driven by Dustin Hoffman appears to be an old
Fiat Spider. Foreign made, stick shift, Cool-ass car!
Adam Newirth (bnewirth@tl.infi.net)
The car is actually the classic Alfa Romeo Spider. It was made right up until 1994!
The actual exact model is the 'Duetto' or
boat tail (because of its round rear end). I'm sure this film helped contribute to the HUNDREDS
of these cars in the San Francisco Bay Area (including my own)

The church is said to be in Santa Barbara, of which I cannot find, even
the local film logs say scenes in the Graduate where shot here(SB) labeled 'Gas station exterior',
'bus exterior' and 'wedding', well in Winchester Canyon about 10 miles north of Santa Barbara proper,
I dont believe there is a allen street in SB, but there is one thing I know was filmed here, that is the
Gas station previous (or maybe post, its been a while) to the wedding and the bus on the 'countryroad'
which is no longer country, the Gas station is still there in Winchester Canyon, the Winchester off ramp
I believe, off the 101. Its possible the church was in Santa Barbara, but I have spent all my life here and have been
all over and have yet to have seen it.

Can any one tell me if the guy in the shower (who told Dustin where the wedding was) was Nick Nolte?

When I showed the 25th anniversary version to my girlfriend's mother, she told me that some scenes
are actually cut out of this version! She claims that when she was a girl in the Phillipenes, the version she saw in the theater
had extra scenes of lovemaking (which was why in the Phillipenes, this movie was considered to be the 'quintessential make-out movie').
Can anyone confirm this?
Brian Trewin (btrewin@telusplanet.net)
i rented the movie once from the local video store, in this version they changed the "OH, MY CHRIST" to "OH, MY GOD".
In the scene where Ben and Elaine are at the zoo, i swear one of the signs that is supposed to say "PLEASE DO NOT TEASE THE MONKEYS"
was changed to "1-800-COLLECT". They both are black signs with yellow letters.
i don't know, if anyone does know..:

I love this movie. I love the novel. I'm writing about it.

The scenes at UC Berkeley were actually filmed at the University of Southern California (www.usc.edu), in front of Doheny Library, and the Von KleinSmid Center served as the exterior Elaine's dorm. If you have the Quicktime VR patch, you can take a virtual reality tour of this area at http://www.usc.edu/dept/TommyCam/newtour.html (thake the "big tour"). Great shot of the fountain Hoffman sits on!

This film is filled with so much symbolism. I am writing a paper on the 1967 classic for my Film Communications class. I'm curious to know the symbolic importance of this one scene: 1.) At the end, Benjamin waves a cross at all of the wedding attendants in an effort to keep them back so he can escape with his one true love, Elaine. Thus, the cross is a weapon. What does it mean, folks. I have a hard time believeing there is anything sacreligious about it. Imput please. Thanks.

"The Graduate-car was a red 1966 1600 Duetto. Dustin Hoffman was related to the US Alfa-importer, so that's why the Duetto became a movie-star. They used two cars, both 1966 European versions. In the excellent book "Alfa Romeo Duetto Siders" by Gienzano Madaro, you may read all about it. Publ. Goirgio Nada Editore, ISBN88-7911-063-2 The name "Graduate" was never used on the roundtails, but in the 1980's Alfa introduced a Spider model named Graduate. It was a stripped version of the 2000 Spider model with a Kamm-tail (square-tail)." This information comes from http://hem.passagen.se/veloce/WELCOME.HTM by Wilhelm Roos Also, CarDisc, a company that supplies Alfa Romeo repair manuals, features a jpeg from the movie. http://www.cardisc.com/ar10013.html

When The Graduate was first released the movie poster that was distributed to the theaters showed Dustin Hoffman in the background looking through Mrs. Robininson leg as she was removing her stockings. I want to know if anyone has or knows where I could download this poster scene. I am also interested in aquiring the sound bitefrom the movie about plastics. If you can help....

Hello, The car driven by Dustin Hoffman in the movie The Graduate, is not an old fiat spider, but is an Alfa Romeo Duetto. Bye
