3.Bookstores & Second-Hand Bookstores in Asagaya

There are 7 bookstores and 13 used-book stores in Asagaya.
Though bookstores are decreasing, new type secondhand bookstores are on the increase.
Throughout Japan, chain stores of secondhand bookstores are now popular among young people for its convenience-store style as they open until midnight with many young part-time workers there.
But in Asagaya, we are more familiar with old style used-book stores which seem to match the atmosphere of old towns like Asagaya. Ordinary bookstores are crowded with many people who want to buy them or read them for free, just like it's always been.

The store was founded in the 1930's. It was renovated and opened in Nov. , 1995, when the new exit of Asagaya Sta. was built. It is popular for its convenience because it is next to the exit of the Sta.
It is very spacious as wide as one third of all the second floor of Diya-Gai.
The owner's aunt who has been working for the shop more than 60 years is very kind.

Book Shop "Shogaku"

Opened in 1982. This is a store with books on mountain climbing, nature ski (The store's owner, Akira Hashiya, writes several books on it.), nature observing, etc.
He hopes that you can feel nature itself after reading these books. The store also holds the naturing school which includes not only theoretical study, but also mountain climbing, snow-trekking, photography, pressed flowers, etc. on the spot. If you are interested, why not join them!

Seishido Shoten

The store was opened in Kanda, and moved here to Asagaya due to WW2.
50 years have passed after it moved to Pearl Center.
When I was a junior high student, I was a regular customer of "reading for free".
The owner of the shop who used to dust books at that time already retired.
