![]() Suginami Social Welfare Hall |
As I take care of elderly parents at home, I am very interested in the welfare system in Suginami. So, first of all, I visited the "Suginami Social Welfare Hall" building. In the building are three offices such as Suginami Silver Jinzai Center(1F,2F), Suginami Social Welfare Conference (3F), and Suginami San-Ai Kosha (5F,6F). This building is located on Nakasugi Street next to the Suginami Ward Office Building within a minute walk from Minami-Asagaya Subway Sta. |

At the corner many small colorful goods are displayed and sold. They are hand-made by elderly members of the Center after they have taken the lesson. The room is equipped with tables, chairs and a tea service corner for members to communicate with each other. In order to get skills for these jobs, you can join classes for free. If you wish, please apply to the center. Applicants should be around 60 and older and should be ready to work as a member of "Silver Jinzai Center". And also, when you need some help at home or at your office, please contact the Center. |

| This is a core of non-governmental welfare organizations in Suginami ward. Some of their activities are maintained by the membership fee and donation. They take care of the work which the government cannot cover. They play the role of a bridge between the Suginami Government and Suginami citizens. For example, they manage several day care centers in Suginami, promote the volunteer activities, and so on.
They are asking for your cooperation as a member of the Conference and a volunteer for welfare in Suginami. If you are interested in their activities, please contact this Conference or Suginami Volunteer Center. Visitors and users are welcome. |

| "San" means three and "Ai" means both love and doing something useful for each other which refers to Fure-ai (contacting each other), Hagemashi-ai (encouraging each other), and Tasuke-ai (helping each other). This San-ai Kosha offers home care welfare services. These services are available for a fee for those who live in Suginami Ward and require assistance. Senior citizens 65 years of age and older, mentally/physically disabled people, single-parent households or the bedridden may become members and take advantage of the welfare services. The membership fee is \1,000 per month. Services include home-helper service, meal service, bathing service, emergency notification service, and financial service (acting as a liaison for members who wish to apply for loans to support their life at home). Lunch delivery service costs \866, and dinner \1,020 per day. House chore helper service costs \700 per hour ( from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM ) and \840 ( from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM, and from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM ). Nursing-helper service costs \840 per hour ( from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM ) and \980 ( from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM, and from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM ). Bathing service costs \7,000 once a month. As I have received meal service for my sick parents, I thank for their considerate work like they open the meal container and concern about the sick. Home-helper service is also reliable, as there is a close relationship between the helper and the nurse. I read the books named "Four seasons on Keyaki Street" and "Letters between Helpers and Nurses of San-Ai Kosha". I felt they do a great job. But they are worrying about the decreasing number of helpers. The fact is that the number of utilizers is increasing while helpers themselves are becoming old. |
